Anne Bradstreet - Upon My Dear and Loving Husband his Going into England Jan. 16, 1661

O thou Most High who rulest all br And hear'st the prayers of thine, br O hearken, Lord, unto my suit br And my petition sign. br br Into Thy everlasting arms Of mercy br I commend Thy servant, Lord. br Keep and preserve My husband, br my dear friend. br br At Thy command, O Lord, he went, br Nor nought could keep him back. br Then let Thy promise joy his heart, br O help and be not slack. br br Uphold my heart in Thee, O God. br Thou art my strength and stay, br Thou see'st how weak and frail I am, br Hide not Thy face away. br br I in obedience to Thy will br Thou knowest did submit. br It was my duty so to do; br O Lord, accept of it. br br Unthankfulness for mercies past br Impute Thou not to me. br O Lord, Thou know'st my weak desire br Was to sing praise to Thee. br br Lord, be Thou pilot to the ship br And send them prosperous gales. br In storms and sickness, Lord, preserve. br Thy goodness never fails. br br Unto Thy work he hath in hand br Lord, grant Thou good success br And favour in their eyes to whom br He shall make his address. br br Remember, Lord, Thy folk whom Thou br To wilderness hast brought; br Let not Thine own inheritance br Be sold away for nought. br br But tokens of Thy favour give, br With joy send back my dear br That I and all Thy servants may br Rejoice with heavenly cheer. br br Lord, let my eyes see once again br Him whom Thou gavest me br That we together may sing praise br Forever unto Thee. br br And the remainder of our days br Shall consecrated be br With an engaged heart to sing br All praises unto Thee.
