John W. Knight - Baseball

The game was tied in the bottom of nine br A runner on third and two out br In the dead still air a mosquito's whine br Was all you could hear, then a shout br br "Do something Ben, murder the ball, br For crying out loud get a hit." br Ben strode to the plate to answer the call br The now restless fans knew this was it br br He dug in his right foot then positioned his left br And tapped the plate twice with his bat br Then he pulled it back slowly as to measure its heft br And tensed his whole frame like a cat br br The pitcher glared in, the Ump hunkered down br Then the ball on its way like a shot br Ben pulled the trigger, his body unwound br And the ball hit the bat with a "Thock" br br This is the sum that the game's all about br This instant is not just a dream br The split second physics, a hit or an out? br Each player and fan poised to screambr br John W.
