Julia A Moore - My Infant Days

Julia A Moore - My Infant Days

iAir -- "The Rain upon the Roof"i br br br When I was a little infant, br And I lay in mother's arms, br Then I felt the gentle pressure br Of a loving mother's arms. br "Go to sleep my little baby, br Go to sleep," mamma would say; br "Oh, will not my little lady br Go to sleep for ma to-day." br br Oh! my parents loved me dearly, br For I was their eldest born, br And they always called me Julia br In a mild and loving form. br My parents will not forget me, br Though I married and left their home, br For they can remember clearly br How with them I once did roam. br br Oh! my mother, how I love her, br Though her head is growing gray, br For in fancy I can see her br Bending o'er me night and day, br As she did when I was little, br Watching me in sleep and play -- br Mother now is growing feeble, br Now I will her love repay. br br Oh! my father, how I love him, br For he has worked hard for me, br For to earn my food and clothing, br In my little infancy. br And oh, I will not forget him, br While on earth I do remain -- br May the God of heaven bless him br In this world of grief and pain.
