William Topaz McGonagall - The Newport Railway

Success to the Newport Railway, br Along the braes of the Silvery Tay, br And to Dundee straghtway, br Across the Railway Bridge o' the Silvery Tay, br Which was opened on the 12th of May, br In the year of our Lord 1879, br Which will clear all expenses in a very short time br Because the thrifty housewives of Newport br To Dundee will often resort, br Which will be to them profit and sport, br By bringing cheap tea, bread, and jam, br And also some of Lipton's ham, br Which will make their hearts feel light and gay, br And cause them to bless the opening day br Of the Newport Railway. br br The train is most beautiful to be seen, br With its long, white curling cloud of steam, br As the Train passes on her way br Along the bonnie braes o' the Silvery Tay. br br And if the people of Dundee br Should feel inclined to have a spree, br I am sure 'twill fill their hearts with glee br By crossing o'er to Newport, br And there they can have excellent sport, br By viewing the scenery beautiful and gay, br During the livelong summer day, br br And then they can return at night br With spirits light and gay, br By the Newport Railway, br By night or by day, br Across the Railway Gridge o' the Silvery Tay. br br Success to the undertakers of the Newport Railway, br Hoping the Lord will their labours repay, br And prove a blessing to the people br For many a long day br Who live near by Newport br On the bonnie braes o' the Silvery Tay.
