Henry Livingston - To the Memory of Sarah Livingston

Henry Livingston - To the Memory of Sarah Livingston

BEYOND where billows roll or tempests vex br Is gone the gentlest of the gentle sex! br ---Her brittle bark on life's wild ocean tost br Unequal to the conflict soon was lost. br Severe her sufferings! much, alas, she bore, br Then sunk beneath the storm & rose no more. br But when th' Archangel's awful trump shall sound br And vibrate life thro all the deep profound br Her renovated vessel will be seen, br Transcendant floating on the silver stream! br All beauteous to behold! serene she glides br Borne on by mildest & propitious tides; br While fanning zephyrs fill her snow white sails br And aid her passage with the friendliest gales br Till safe within the destin'd port of bliss br She furls her sails and moors in endless peace.
