Henry Wadsworth Longfellow - Daylight and Moonlight

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow - Daylight and Moonlight

In broad daylight, and at noon, br Yesterday I saw the moon br Sailing high, but faint and white, br As a schoolboy's paper kite. br br In broad daylight, yesterday, br I read a poet's mystic lay; br And it seemed to me at most br As a phantom, or a ghost. br br But at length the feverish day br Like a passion died away, br And the night, serene and still, br Fell on village, vale, and hill. br br Then the moon, in all her pride, br Like a spirit glorified, br Filled and overflowed the night br With revelations of her light. br br And the Poet's song again br Passed like music through my brain; br Night interpreted to me br All its grace and mystery.
