Paul Eluard - To Live

Paul Eluard - To Live

We both have our hands to give br Take mine I shall lead you afar br br I have lived several times my face hasw changed br With every threshold I have crossed and every hand clasped Familial springtime was reborn br Keeping for itself and for me its perishable snow br Death and the betrothed br The future with five fingers clenched and letting go br br My age always gave me br New reasons for living through others br For having the blood of man other's heart in mine br br Oh the lucid fellow I was and that I am br Before the pallor of frail blind girls br Lovelier than the delicate worn moon so fair br By the reflection of life's ways br A trail of moss anf trees br Of mist and morning dew br Of the young body which does not rise alone br To its place on earth br Wind cold and rain cradle it br Summer makes a man of it br br Presesence is my virtue in each visible hand br Only death is solitude br From delight to fury from fury to clarity br I make myself whole through all beings br Through all weather on the earth and in the clouds br Through the passing seasons I am young br And strong for having lived br I am young my blood rises over my ruins br br We have our hands to entwine Nothing can ever seduce better br Tahn our bonding to each other a forest br Returning earth to sky and the sky to night br br To the night which prepares an unending day.
