Christina Georgina Rossetti - By The Sea

Christina Georgina Rossetti - By The Sea

Why does the sea moan evermore? br Shut out from heaven it makes its moan, br It frets against the boundary shore; br All earth's full rivers cannot fill br The sea, that drinking thirsteth still. br br Sheer miracles of loveliness br Lie hid in its unlooked-on bed: br Anemones, salt, passionless, br Blow flower-like; just enough alive br To blow and multiply and thrive. br br Shells quaint with curve, or spot, or spike, br Encrusted live things argus-eyed, br All fair alike, yet all unlike, br Are born without a pang, and die br Without a pang, and so pass by.
