Elizabeth Bishop - Sonnet

Elizabeth Bishop - Sonnet

I am in need of music that would flow br Over my fretful, feeling finger-tips, br Over my bitter-tainted, trembling lips, br With melody, deep, clear, and liquid-slow. br Oh, for the healing swaying, old and low, br Of some song sung to rest the tired dead, br A song to fall like water on my head, br And over quivering limbs, dream flushed to glow! br br There is a magic made by melody: br A spell of rest, and quiet breath, and cool br Heart, that sinks through fading colors deep br To the subaqueous stillness of the sea, br And floats forever in a moon-green pool, br Held in the arms of rhythm and of sleep.
