Walter de la Mare - Alone

Walter de la Mare - Alone

The abode of the nightingale is bare, br Flowered frost congeals in the gelid air, br The fox howls from his frozen lair: br Alas, my loved one is gone, br I am alone: br It is winter. br br Once the pink cast a winy smell, br The wild bee hung in the hyacinth bell, br Light in effulgence of beauty fell: br I am alone: br It is winter. br br My candle a silent fire doth shed, br Starry Orion hunts o'erhead; br Come moth, come shadow, the world is dead: br Alas, my loved one is gone, br I am alone; br It is winter.
