Henry Van Dyke - A Lover's Envy

Henry Van Dyke - A Lover's Envy

I envy every flower that blows br Along the meadow where she goes, br And every bird that sings to her, br And every breeze that brings to her br The fragrance of the rose. br br I envy every poet's rhyme br That moves her heart at eventime, br And every tree that wears for her br Its brightest bloom, and bears for her br The fruitage of its prime. br br I envy every Southern night br That paves her path with moonbeams white, br And silvers all the leaves for her, br And in their shadow weaves for her br A dream of dear delight. br br I envy none whose love requires br Of her a gift, a task that tires: br I only long to live to her, br I only ask to give to her br All that her heart desires.
