Amy Lowell - Fringed Gentians

Amy Lowell - Fringed Gentians

Near where I live there is a lake br As blue as blue can be, winds make br It dance as they go blowing by. br I think it curtseys to the sky. br br It's just a lake of lovely flowers br And my Mamma says they are ours; br But they are not like those we grow br To be our very own, you know. br br We have a splendid garden, there br Are lots of flowers everywhere; br Roses, and pinks, and four o'clocks br And hollyhocks, and evening stocks. br br Mamma lets us pick them, but never br Must we pick any gentians -- ever! br For if we carried them away br They'd die of homesickness that day.
