Sir Thomas Wyatt - My Galley Chargèd with Forgetfulness

My galley chargèd with forgetfulness br Through sharp seas in winter nights doth pass br 'Twene rock and rock; and eke mine enemy, alas, br That is my lord, steereth with cruelness. br And every oar a thought in readiness br As though that death were light in such a case; br An endless wind doth tear the sail apace br Of forcèd sighs and trusty fearfulness. br A rain of tears, a cloud of dark disdain br Hath done the wearied cords great hindrance, br Wreathèd with error and eke with ignorance. br The stars be hid that led me to this pain, br Drownèd is reason that should me comfort, br And I remain despairing of the port.
