Mathilde Blind - Lassitude

Mathilde Blind - Lassitude

I laid me down beside the sea, br Endless in blue monotony; br The clouds were anchored in the sky. br Sometimes a sail went idling by. br br Upon the shingles on the beach br Grey linen was spread out to bleach, br And gently with a gentle swell br The languid ripples rose and fell. br br A fisher-boy, in level line, br Cast stone by stone into the brine: br Methought I too might do as he, br And cast my sorrows on the sea. br br The old, old sorrows in a heap br Dropped heavily into the deep; br But with its sorrow on that day br My heart itself was cast away.
