Samuel Daniel - Sonnet I: Unto the Boundless Ocean

Samuel Daniel - Sonnet I: Unto the Boundless Ocean

Unto the boundless Ocean of thy beauty br Runs this poor river, charg'd with streams of zeal: br Returning thee the tribute of my duty, br Which here my love, my youth, my plaints reveal. br Here I unclasp the book of my charg'd soul, br Where I have cast th'accounts of all my care: br Here have I summ'd my sighs, here I enroll br How they were spent for thee; look what they are. br Look on the dear expences of my youth, br And see how just I reckon with thine eyes: br Examine well they beauty in my truth, br And cross my cares ere greater sums arise. br Read it, sweet maid, though it be done but slightly; br Who can show all his love, doth love but lightly.
