Henry Clay Work - Lilly-Willy-Woken

Bill Vining had a sorrel colt br Some two years old or more, br But the colt was wild as a mountain deer br And a bridle never wore; br And so one day, br Bill took his colt br named Lilly Willy Woken, br And whipp'd him till his stubborn will br And the whiplash both were broken! br br Broke! Broke! Broken! br Your stubborn will is broken br You will dance no more on the sable floor, br O Lilly Willy Woken! br br Bill Vining was a banker -- br He had a bag of gold; br And not only uncurrent coin, br But customers he sold, br But while he went to break his colt br Young Lilly Willy Woken br His teller told, with his bag of gold br And thus the bank was broken. br br Broke! Broke! Broken br Your master's bank is broken! br He will count no more his profits o'er br O Lilly Willy Woken! br br Bill Vining was a lover -- br He had a lady fair, br Who had said thro' life she'd be his wife br And his bag of gold would share; br But when she saw that all was lost, br Save Lilly Willy Woken, br She felt inclined to change her mind br And so his heart was broken. br br Broke! Broke! Broken br Your master's heart is broken! br He will sing no more at his lady's door, br O Lilly Willy Woken! br br Bill Vining was a mourner -- br He had a host of woes, br And grave despair was pictured where br A smile did once repose.
