Mary Darby Robinson - Echo to Him Who Complains

Mary Darby Robinson - Echo to Him Who Complains

O FLY thee from the shades of night, br Where the loud tempests yelling rise; br Where horrror wings her sullen flight br Beneath the bleak and lurid skies. br br As the pale light'ning swiftly gleams br O'er the scorch'd wood, thy well-known form br More radiant than an angel seems, br Contending with the ruthless storm. br br I see the scowling witch, DESPAIR br Drink the big tear that scalds thy cheek; br While thro' the dark and turbid air, br The screams of haggard ENVY break. br br From the cold mountain's flinty steep, br I hear the dashing waters roar; br Ah! turn thee, turn thee, cease to weep, br Thou hast no reason to deplore. br br See fell DESPAIR expiring fall, br See ENVY from thy glances start; br No more shall howling blasts appall, br Or with'ring grief corrode thy heart. br br See FRIENDSHIP from her azure eye br Drops the fond balm for ev'ry pain br She comes, the offspring of the sky, br "TO RAZE THE TROUBLES OF THE brain.
