Thomas Love Peacock - Margaret Love Peacock

Thomas Love Peacock - Margaret Love Peacock

Long night succeeds thy little day; br Oh blighted blossom! can it be, br That this grey stone, and grassy clay, br Have clos'd our anxious care of thee? br br The half-form'd speech of artless thought br That spoke a mind beyond thy years; br The song, the dance, by nature taught; br The sunny smiles, the transient tears; br br The symmetry of face and form, br The eye with light and life replete; br The little heart so fondly warm, br The voice so musically sweet; br br These, lost to hope, in memory yet br Around the hearts that lov'd thee cling, br Shadowing, with long and vain regret, br The too fair promise of thy spring.
