George Herbert - Discipline

George Herbert - Discipline

THROW away Thy rod, br Throw away Thy wrath; br    O my God, br Take the gentle path! br br For my heart's desire br Unto Thine is bent: br    I aspire br To a full consent. br br Not a word or look br I affect to own, br    But by book, br And Thy Book alone. br br Though I fail, I weep; br Though I halt in pace, br    Yet I creep br To the throne of grace. br br Then let wrath remove; br Love will do the deed; br    For with love br Stony hearts will bleed. br br Love is swift of foot; br Love 's a man of war, br    And can shoot, br And can hit from far. br br Who can 'scape his bow? br That which wrought on Thee, br    Brought Thee low, br Needs must work on me.
