Thomas Carew - Another

THIS little vault, this narrow room, br Of Love and Beauty is the tomb; br The dawning beam, that 'gan to clear br Our clouded sky, lies darken'd here, br For ever set to us: by Death br Sent to enflame the World Beneath. br 'Twas but a bud, yet did contain br More sweetness than shall spring again; br A budding Star, that might have grown br Into a Sun when it had blown. br This hopeful Beauty did create br New life in Love's declining state; br But now his empire ends, and we br From fire and wounding darts are free; br    His brand, his bow, let no man fear: br    The flames, the arrows, all lie here.
