William Butler Yeats - Crazy Jane Grown Old Looks At The Dancers

William Butler Yeats - Crazy Jane Grown Old Looks At The Dancers

I found that ivory image there br Dancing with her chosen youth, br But when he wound her coal-black hair br As though to strangle her, no scream br Or bodily movement did I dare, br Eyes under eyelids did so gleam; br Love is like the lion's tooth. br br When She, and though some said she played br I said that she had danced heart's truth, br Drew a knife to strike him dead, br I could but leave him to his fate; br For no matter what is said br They had all that had their hate; br Love is like the lion's tooth. br br Did he die or did she die? br Seemed to die or died they both? br God be with the times when I br Cared not a thraneen for what chanced br So that I had the limbs to try br Such a dance as there was danced - br Love is like the lion's tooth.
