Robert William Service - Annuitant

Robert William Service - Annuitant

Oh I am neither rich nor poor, br No worker I dispoil; br Yet I am glad to be secure br From servitude and toil. br For with my lifelong savings I br Have bought annuity; br And so unto the day I die br I'll have my toast and tea. br br When on the hob the kettle sings br I'll make an amber brew, br And crunch my toast and think of things br I do not have to do. br In dressing-gown and deep arm-chair br I'll give the fire a poke; br Then worlds away from cark and care br I'll smoke and smoke and smoke. br br For I believe the very best br Of Being is the last; br And I will crown with silver zest br My patience in the past. br Since compensation is the law br Of life it's up to me br To round the century and draw br My Life Annuity.
