Robert William Service - Awake To Smile

Robert William Service - Awake To Smile

When I blink sunshine in my eyes br And hail the amber morn, br Before the rosy dew-drop dries br With sparkle on the thorn; br When boughs with robin rapture ring, br And bees hum in the may,-- br Then call me young, with heart of Spring, br Though I be grey. br br But when no more I know the joy br And urgence of that hour, br As like a happy-hearted boy br I leap to land aflower; br When gusto I no longer feel, br To rouse with glad hooray,-- br Then call me old and let me steal br From men away. br br Let me awaken with a smile br And go to garden glee, br For there is such a little while br Of living left to me; br But when star-wist I frail away, br Lord, let the hope beguile br That to Ecstatic Light I may br Awake to smile.
