I am a stout materialist; br With abstract terms I can't agree, br And so I've made a little list br Of words that don't make sense to me. br To fool my reason I refuse, br For honest thinking is my goal; br And that is why I rarely use br Vague words like Soul. br br In terms of matter I am sure br This world of our can be defined; br And so with theories obscure br I will not mystify my mind; br And though I use it more or less, br Describing alcoholic scenes, br I do not know, I must confess, br What Spirit means. br br When I survey this cosmic scene, br The term "Creator" seems absurd; br The Universe has always been, br Creation never has occurred. br But in my Lexicon of Doubt br It strikes me definitely odd, br One word I never dare to flout, br One syllable the mountains shout, br Three letters that the stars spell out: br GOD.
