Robert William Service - My Son

Robert William Service - My Son

I must not let my boy Dick down, br Knight of the air. br With wings of light he won renown br Then crashed somewhere. br To fly to France from London town br I do not dare. br br Oh he was such a simple lad br Who loved the sky; br A modern day Sir Galahad, br No need to die: br Earthbound he might have been so glad, br Yet chose to fly. br br I ask from where his courage stemmed? br I've never flown; br Air-travel I have oft condemned,-- br Now I'm alone, br Yet somehow hold the bright belief br God gave his brief. br br So now I must live up to him br Who won on high br A lustre time will never dim; br Though coward I, br Let me revere till life be done br My hero son.
