Davis McCombs - Echo River

Davis McCombs - Echo River

Soon we had fashioned a rude boat, br and with lanterns affixed to the prow br were ferrying tours across the smoky waters: br Styx, Lethe, Echo River, the host br of wonders I had found. By slapping br the water with the flat of my paddle, br there comes a sound like the ringing of bells, br a mournful, hollow melody--waves lap- br ping and beating under the low stone arches. br The voice, too, will reproduce in myriad; br often I have led a tour in song, shouts raised br or pistols fired on the dark, deep water. br Children of a clanging, squeaking world, br we cannot bear the silence.
