George Herbert - Sighs And Groans

George Herbert - Sighs And Groans

O do not use me br br After my sins! look not on my dessert, br br But on your glory! Then you will reform br br And not refuse me: for you only art br br The mighty God, but I a silly worm; br br O do not bruise me! br br br br O do not urge me! br br For what account can your ill steward make? br br I have abused your stock, destroyed your woods, br br Sucked all your storehouses: my head did ache, br br Till it found out how to consume your goods: br br O do not scourge me! br br br br O do not blind me! br br I have deserved that an Egyptian night br br Should thicken all my powers; because my lust br br Has still sewed fig-leaves to exclude your light: br br But I am frailty, and already dust; br br O do not grind me! br br br br O do not fill me br br With the turned vial of your bitter wrath! br br For you have other vessels full of blood, br br A part whereof my Savior emptied hath, br br Even unto death: since he died for my good, br br O do not kill me! br br br br But O reprieve me! br br For you have life and death at your command; br br You are both Judge and Savior, feast and rod, br br Cordial and Corrosive: put not your hand br br Into the bitter box; but O my God, br br My God, relieve me!br br George Herbertbr br
