Christopher Taber - The Last Of The Romantics

Christopher Taber - The Last Of The Romantics

Romanticism is dying away, br Those of us it was bred into are br Being snuffed out of society br The days of practicing propriety have come to an end br So slowly we dwindle away br We are the last petals on the red rose br Drifting away one by one br Our profession, that of the helpless romantic br Is no longer wanted br We are no longer wanted br We are no longer needed br Our deeds were not heeded br Common courting of the day consists of br Getting torn up then tearing that ass up br There is no more wining and dining br Or the holding of doors and pulling out chairs br Candle light dinners, or nights spent under the stars br The era of the “gentleman” has come to an end br Passion and compassion seeped out of society as drugs took their place br So where did all the poets and the playwrights go? br I think we need another Shakespeare or a Frost br And a Romeo and Juliet of the modern age br Another death to wake the world might be what we need br But either way it will be a death, most likely ours br So as the last petal falls this I leave to you, br sad thoughts from a helpless romantic no longer practicing his professionbr br Christopher Taberbr br
