Eugene Field - The Drum

Eugene Field - The Drum

I'm a beautiful red, red drum, br And I train with the soldier boys; br As up the street we come, br Wonderful is our noise! br There's Tom, and Jim, and Phil, br And Dick, and Nat, and Fred, br While Widow Cutler's Bill br And I march on ahead, br With a r-r-rat-tat-tat br And a tum-titty-um-tum-tum - br Oh, there's bushels of fun in that br For boys with a little red drum! br br The Injuns came last night br While the soldiers were abed, br And they gobbled a Chinese kite br And off to the woods they fled! br The woods are the cherry-trees br Down in the orchard lot, br And the soldiers are marching to seize br The booty the Injuns got. br With tum-titty-um-tum-tum, br And r-r-rat-tat-tat, br When soldiers marching come br Injuns had better scat! br br Step up there, little Fred, br And, Charley, have a mind! br Jim is as far ahead br As you two are behind! br Ready with gun and sword br Your valorous work to do - br Yonder the Injun horde br Are lying in wait for you.
