Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - At Midnight Hour

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - At Midnight Hour

AT midnight hour I went, not willingly, br br A little, little boy, yon churchyard past, br To Father Vicar's house; the stars on high br br On all around their beauteous radiance cast, br br At midnight hour. br br And when, in journeying o'er the path of life, br br My love I follow'd, as she onward moved, br With stars and northern lights o'er head in strife, br br Going and coming, perfect bliss I proved br br At midnight hour. br br Until at length the full moon, lustre-fraught, br br Burst thro' the gloom wherein she was enshrined; br And then the willing, active, rapid thought br br Around the past, as round the future twined, br br At midnight hour.
