Eugene Field - The shut-eye train

Eugene Field - The shut-eye train

Come, my little one, with me! br There are wondrous sights to see br As the evening shadows fall; br In your pretty cap and gown, br Don't detain br The Shut-Eye train - br "Ting-a-ling!" the bell it goeth, br "Toot-toot!" the whistle bloweth, br And we hear the warning call: br "All aboard for Shut-Eye Town!" br br Over hill and over plain br Soon will speed the Shut-Eye train! br Through the blue where bloom the stars br And the Mother Moon looks down br We'll away br To land of Fay - br Oh, the sights that we shall see there! br Come, my little one, with me there - br 'T is a goodly train of cars - br All aboard for Shut-Eye Town! br br Swifter than a wild bird's flight, br Through the realms of fleecy light br We shall speed and speed away! br Let the Night in envy frown - br What care we br How wroth she be! br To the Balow-land above us, br To the Balow-folk who love us, br Let us hasten while we may - br All aboard for Shut-Eye Town! br br Shut-Eye Town is passing fair - br Golden dreams await us there; br We shall dream those dreams, my dear, br Till the Mother Moon goes down - br See unfold br Delights untold! br And in those mysterious places br We shall see beloved faces br And beloved voices hear br In the grace of Shut-Eye Town.
