Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - The New Amadis

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - The New Amadis

IN my boyhood's days so drear br br I was kept confined; br There I sat for many a year, br br All alone I pined, br As within the womb. br br Yet thou drov'st away my gloom, br br Golden phantasy! br I became a hero true, br br Like the Prince Pipi, br And the world roam'd through, br br Many a crystal palace built, br br Crush'd them with like art, br And the Dragon's life-blood spilt br br With my glitt'ring dart. br Yes! I was a man! br br Next I formed the knightly plan br br Princess Fish to free; br She was much too complaisant, br br Kindly welcomed me,-- br And I was gallant. br br Heav'nly bread her kisses proved, br br Glowing as the wine; br Almost unto death I loved. br br Sun-s appeared to shine br In her dazzling charms.
