Henry Livingston Jr. - Hiding Place

Hail sov'reign love that first began, br The scheme to rescue fallen man; br Hail matchless, free, eternal grace, br That gave my soul a Hiding-Place. br br Against the God that rules the sky, br I fought with hands uplifted high; br Despis'd the mentions of his grace, br Too proud to seek a Hiding-Place. br br Enwrapt in thick Egyptian night, br And fond of darkness more than light, br Madly I ran the sinful race, br Secure without a Hiding-Place. br br But thus the eternal counsel ran, br Almighty Love arrest that man; br I felt the arrows of distress, br And saw that I'd no Hiding-Place. br br Indignant Justice stood in view, br To Sina's fiery mount I flew; br But Justice cry'd with frowning face, br This mountain is no Hiding-Place. br br Ere long a Heav'nly voice I heard, br And Mercy's angel form appear'd, br She led me on with placid pace, br To Jesus as my Hiding-Place. br br Should storms of sevenfold thunder roll, br And shake the globe from pole to pole, br No flaming bolt should daunt my face, br For Jesus is my Hiding-Place. br br On him almighty vengeance fell, br That must have sunk the world to hell: br He bore it for the chosen race, br And thus became their Hiding-Place. br br A few more rolling suns at most, br Shall land us on fair Canaan's coast, br Where we shall sing the song of grace, br And see our glorious Hiding-Place.br br Henry Livingston Jr.
