Emily Pauline Johnson - Guard of the eastern gate

Emily Pauline Johnson - Guard of the eastern gate

Halifax sits on her hills by the sea br In the might of her pride,-- br Invincible, terrible, beautiful, she br With a sword at her side. br br To right and to left of her, battlements rear br And fortresses frown; br While she sits on her throne without favour or fear br With her cannon as crown. br br Coast guard and sentinel, watch of the weal br Of a nation she keeps; br But her hand is encased in a gauntlet of steel, br And her thunder but sleeps.
