Edward Dowden - A New Hymn for Solitude

Edward Dowden - A New Hymn for Solitude

I found Thee in my heart, O Lord, br As in some secret shrine; br I knelt, I waited for Thy word, br I joyed to name Thee mine. br br I feared to give myself away br To that or this; beside br Thy altar on my face I lay, br And in strong need I cried. br br Those hours are past. Thou art not mine, br And therefore I rejoice, br I wait within no holy shrine, br I faint not for the voice. br br In Thee we live; and every wind br Of heaven is Thine; blown free br To west, to east, the God unshrined br Is still discovering me.
