Gilbert Keith Chesterton - The Englishman

Gilbert Keith Chesterton - The Englishman

St George he was for England, br And before he killed the dragon br He drank a pint of English ale br Out of an English flagon. br For though he fast right readily br In hair-shirt or in mail, br It isn't safe to give him cakes br Unless you give him ale. br br St George he was for England, br And right gallantly set free br The lady left for dragon's meat br And tied up to a tree; br But since he stood for England br And knew what England means, br Unless you give him bacon br You mustn't give him beans. br br St George he is for England, br And shall wear the shield he wore br When we go out in armour br With battle-cross before. br But though he is jolly company br And very pleased to dine, br It isn't safe to give him nuts br Unless you give him wine.
