Clarence Michael James Stanislaus Dennis - Our Cow

Clarence Michael James Stanislaus Dennis - Our Cow

Down by the slipralls stands our cow br Chewing, chewing, chewing, br She does not care what folks out there br In the great, big world are doing. br She sees the small cloud-shadows pass br And green grass shining under. br If she does think, what does she think br About it all, I wonder? br br She sees the swallows skimming by br Above the sweet young clover, br The light reeds swaying in the wind br And tall trees bending over. br Far down the track she hears the crack br of bullock-whips, and raving br Of angry men where, in the sun, br Her fellow-beasts are slaving. br br Girls, we are told, can scratch and scold, br And boys will fight and wrangle, br And big, grown men, just now and then, br Fret o'er some fingle-fangle, br Vexing the earth with grief or mirth, br Longing, rejoicing, rueing - br But by the slipralls stands our cow, br Chewing.
