Henry Timrod - Sonnet 02

Henry Timrod - Sonnet 02

Most men know love but as a part of life; br They hide it in some corner of the breast, br Even from themselves; and only when they rest br In the brief pauses of that daily strife, br Wherewith the world might else be not so rife, br They draw it forth (as one draws forth a toy br To soothe some ardent, kiss-exacting boy) br And hold it up to sister, child, or wife.
