John Shaw Neilson - You and Yellow Air

YOU, AND YELLOW AIR by John Shaw Neilson br I dream of an old kissing-time br And the flowered follies there; br In the dim place of cherry-trees, br Of you, and yellow air. br br It was an age of babbling, br When the players would play br Mad with the wine and miracles br Of a charmed holiday. br br Bewildered was the warm earth br With whistling and sighs, br And a young foal spoke all his heart br With diamonds for eyes. br br You were of Love's own colour br In eyes and heart and hair; br In the dim place of cherry-trees br Ridden by yellow air. br br It was the time when red lovers br With the red fevers burn; br A time of bells and silver seeds br And cherries on the turn. br br Children looked into tall trees br And old eyes looked behind; br God in His glad October br No sullen man could find. br br Out of your eyes a magic br Fell lazily as dew, br And every lad with lad's eyes br Made summer love to you. br br It was a reign of roses, br Of blue flowers for the eye, br And the rustling of green girls br Under a white sky. br br I dream of an old kissing-time br And the flowered follies there, br In the dim place of cherry-trees, br Of you, and yellow air.
