Isaac Watts - Hymn 145

Isaac Watts - Hymn 145

Christ and Aaron. br Heb. 7; 9. br br Jesus, in thee our eyes behold br A thousand glories more, br Than the rich gems and polished gold br The sons of Aaron wore. br br They first their own burnt-offerings brought, br To purge themselves from sin; br Thy life was pure without a spot, br And all thy nature clean. br br [Fresh blood as constant as the day br Was on their altar spilt; br But thy one offering takes away br For ever all our guilt.] br br [Their priesthood ran through several hands, br For mortal was their race; br Thy never-changing office stands br Eternal as thy days.] br br [Once in the circuit of a year, br With blood, but not his own, br Aaron within the veil appears br Before the golden throne: br br But Christ, by his own powerful blood, br Ascends above the skies, br And in the presence of our God br Shows his own sacrifice.] br br Jesus, the King of glory, reigns br On Zion's heav'nly hill; br Looks like a lamb that has been slain, br And wears his priesthood still. br br He ever lives to intercede br Before his Father's face: br Give him, my soul, thy cause to plead, br Nor doubt the Father's grace.
