Bill Simmons - The Old Farmer

Bill Simmons - The Old Farmer

He climbs up on his tracter br Starts up his henry ford br Mows some in his pasture br For a while til he gets bored br br He parks it in his barn br He then feeds all his hens br He is just one lone farmer br Doing the best he can br br He picks up his cane br That is leaning on a post br Walks up to the house br The home that he loved most br br There is no one at the door br It used to be his wife br She would meet him with open arms br She was so part of his life br br But now he is alone br She has passed on br He grabs his rocking chair br Sets it out on the lawn br br Then he rocks a spell br Until it gets dark br Until he sees the moon br Surrounded by the stars br br Then he calls her name br And looks into the sky br This country farmer has his pain br Alone in the night br br Then the tears fall br And he breaks down and cries br He can now feel the hurt br Through the day he has tried to hide br br The very next day br He picks up his walking cane br He mows some in his pasture br Like he did yesterday.
