Elga Haymon White - Walking Alone... Together

Elga Haymon White - Walking Alone... Together

Walking with you in the evening br Along the bowered lane br Walking alone... together br In the slowly, falling rain. br br There was no need to hurry, to reach the long lane's end br Walking alone... together... last moments we would spend br Under the weeping willow's boughs, listening to its tears br Falling to the wetted earth, upon our dullen ears br br Walking alone... together... the time had come to part br As evening shadows gathered 'round my lonely, aching heart br You slipped your tiny hand in mine, you vowed that you'd be true br You promised you would think of me... I promised to think of you br br A tolling of the evening bell... resounded loud and clear br Echoing in the twilight... we knew the time was near br Winding, twisting, wending our way 'round The Long Lost Bend br Walking alone... together... we reached the long lane's end br br A shadowy moon was rising, stars glimmered in the sky br My tender heart was breaking and I asked the question, 'Why? ' br 'Why must I leave my true love, the One I hold so dear? ' br The tolling of the evening bell... again rang loud and clear br br As if the bell were speaking to my longing, yearning soul br It whispered softly, gently, 'She's yours to have... to hold' br Her hand I pressed against my lips, then held it to my heart br 'I'll love you always, darling, 'til death do us part' br br Hope sprang up within my heart...
