Frank V. Gardner - Danny's Home Again

Frank V. Gardner - Danny's Home Again

Our Danny came back home to us br By Greyhound bus today. br The count of days was forty-six br Since when he went away. br br He thumbed a ride to San Antone, br And hopped a freight from there. br He didn't have the wherewithal br To pay the travel fare. br br In Granite City, Illinois, br He loaded railroad ties, br While learning pay is just reward br He gets because he tries. br br He thought he'd work the summer, br But then he heard our plea, br Through one Salvation Army man, br Who read my poetry. br br And so, he climbed aboard a bus, br He paid his fare, and then.... br He came back to the border br And his family once again. br br Now Danny's back, and we'll have our br United family, br With love, cooperation.... and br Some quiet harmony. br br br (Written on June 17,1972, in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico.)br br Frank V.
