Frank V. Gardner - Nancy's Life to Save

When Nancy was a tiny tot br She sank beneath a wave. br Her family gathered on the spot, br Her precious life to save. br br br We dragged her from the water, br As her skin was turning blue. br We prayed to God, that with His help, br We'd know just what to do. br br br When mouth-to-mouth resuscitation br Wouldn't do the job, br Her daddy switched to 'pressure prone.' br At length, we heard her sob. br br br She coughed, and cried,,,, and then the color br Came back to her face, br As we, and others gathered there, br Praised God around that place. br br br And now, some twenty years gone by, br Our Nancy, once again, br Is stifled by some troubling things br So hard to comprehend. br br br We pray our adult Nancy will br Join with her family, br To save her life, and persevere, br With love and dignity. br br br (When she was two-and-a-half years old, br Nancy 's family saved her from drowning br in El Paso, Texas, in 1966.) br br (This poem was written on October 22,1987.) br br (Nancy died, tragically, in Virginia,1990.)br br Frank V.
