Some said I would fail br Because of the family I'm from. br They said because we were poor br We were all gutter bound br And to have a chance at life br We would never overcome. br I Can't Do That! br br They said I couldn't make it br They said I couldn't stand br Because I didn't have br Advanced grades in school. br They said I was stupid br And bound to break every rule. br I Can't Do That! br br They said I wouldn't slide br Because of the color of my skin. br I jumped every good opportunity br I won't hold my head down br Because you moraly frown br Why should I give in. br I Can't Do that! br br I was told even my kids br Wouldn't stand a chance. br Because of the life br Of my foreparents background br That we only see at a glance br No jail or illegitimatcies are found. br I Can't Do That! br br Now as life issues its bullies br Its confidences of discouragement br I see just how many br Of these sad influences br Have such negative impact br In the lives of the positive are represented. br I Can't Do That! br br They make you gay br When life ain't funny. br They make you a liar br If you make honest money. br They want you to feel less br For doing your best. br I Can't Do That! br br They think you should fail br They think you should give up. br To do things to satisfy them br That would make you deserve time. br Living for what others want br I would really be out of my mind.
