David Keig - Way Out West Of Wagga

David Keig - Way Out West Of Wagga

The train winds west from wagga br Me - sitting sweating from the sun br My swag up on the swaying rack br Now beholden to no-one. br br It's a morning on the sky line br The sun slides slanting rays br The countryside is counting br In years and not in days. br br Way out west of wagga br Is why the journey ends br I’m off to find my people br And cast off city friends. br br My mob came from out that country br That the white folks made their own br They sent us off to rail yards br And Redfern was our home. br br It’s hard there housed in Redfern br Caught between two worlds br The white man's world don't see us br Us cut off from our birth. br br The line sings out its rhythm br The sound of wheel on rail br The wheels made in those workshops br Those workshops were our gaol. br br Way out west of wagga br I’m sure that I’ll find my mob br I’m told they’re drinking swearing br With more flies than there are jobs. br br Yeah, I drank drinks with the piper br Lost control and do not know br Why what is west of wagga br Is now where i must go.
