Lee Ann Schaffer - A Teacher's Prayer for the Lost Children

Lee Ann Schaffer - A Teacher's Prayer for the Lost Children

The child who hides behind laughter br The child who reaches out with tears br The child who no one looks after br Who runs away when someone nears br br Never got a mamma’s “spit bath” br Never danced on daddy’s toes br No one to ever help with math br No wall marks to show how he grows br br Amplified loneliness music br Hollow echoes of lack of sound br Ears strain to hear a doorknob click br Rooms and hearts waiting to be found br br The lonely ache of nothingness, br A much deeper hurt than the pain br Of a hard hand’s angry caress - br Storms: they beat clouds that never rain. br br God, fill their dark, unquiet nights br With brave, beautiful, dancing dream. br Let them meet smiles, inspiring lights, br Though from strangers’ faces they stream. br br Home won’t protect them, nurture them br So, God, please safely bring them here. br We will teach them, try to guide them, br Let them know that to us they’re dear.
