Jeffery Conway - To An Angel

Jeffery Conway - To An Angel

The first time we meet br in New York City br it will be snowing. br No one will stop br to take a picture br of us as we stand br inches apart and shake br hands on a busy street br corner. Taxicabs br will continue to pass, br splattering dirty slush br onto our wool coats. br We will walk br in silence to a cafe br where we'll sit br for hours sipping br espresso, fingering sugar br packets. The smoke br from your cigarette br will rise and hover br around your head br like mist in a grave- br yard covering br a tombstone at dawn, br the epitaph barely readable. br Just after midnight br you will lean forward, br your face-pale br and thin-emerges br from the haze, eyes br dark as skulls', br and slowly, unnoticed, br we will kiss.
