Michael Shepherd - 0243 The Sonnet

Michael Shepherd - 0243 The Sonnet

Why is this sonnet form so dear to me? br this silent cloister of the singing heart br where I may be myself in sanctity br yet meet beloved strangers there in art; br br a shape like some great arch across the world br where every word has music in its sound; br a place like prayer, inner maze uncurled br to find a pattern in that measured ground; br br a conversation with tomorrow's friends br of all we know but seldom talk about; br a haven in a time that never ends; br a love that's now a whisper, now a shout; br br - to final couplet, falling heaven-blest br to stillness, in that space where all things rest.
