Dr John Celes - Alas, A Bard’s a Bruised Reed!

They make me mad- some people, known unknown; br They make me sad- their wiliness ego; br They’re after money’s comfort on this earth! br Sense common-sense are things that’re a dearth. br br They know how poets have suffered in life! br They know how poets land in utter strife! br They stay unmoved inert- husband or wife: br They wound my heart with words akin a knife. br br Oh how I wish I should be, never me! br Oh how I wish I were akin to them; br Yet, I can’t simply change: I’m thus destined; br To Poesy must Bards always well bind. br br Poetry isn’t something that pays at once; br It isn’t something that gives plenty returns; br A Poet seeks the truth without within; br And Truth is God: God abhors only sin! br br Being like earthlings is not always right; br The destiny of world, poets do fight; br Most Bards cannot be dishonest, may be; br Their minds are fixed to Eternity. br br And if they change, could they God realize? br Good Bards prefer to be always soul-wise; br And like a phoenix die, again arise; br And show the world to be heavenly-wise! br br Oh, one can’t take me for an easy ride; br I can’t my emotions and passions hide; br I can’t live on with ego great and pride; br My thoughts to be aright, God helps decide. br br The superfluous from the thing that’s deep; br The virtual surreal from real; br The transient from what is permanent; br God help me to know and my soul to keep.
